TOP 10 STORES TO VISIT IN NYC

So many stores, so little time. Heading to NYC for the NRF Big Show 2018? Here’s a handy guide to steer you to some of the most interesting new retail experiences in the city.

1. Allbirds

Silicon Valley’s darling sneaker brand opened its first NYC store in 2017. Treat yourself to a pair of the brand’s signature merino wool runners and see whether they live up to their reputation as the “world’s most comfortable shoe”. Carrying a little holiday weight? Take them for a spin on the store’s human-sized hamster wheel. The space also features a lace bar for customers to mix and match the brand’s famous hues.

2. KITH


Fan of streetwear? Welcome to the capital of cool. 2017 was a big year for KITH. The brand opened several flagships in key cities and partnered with the likes of Nike, Bergdorf Goodman, LeBron James, and even Spongebob Squarepants. Founder Ronnie Fieg is proving that brick and mortar isn’t dead. Cooler-than-thou ‘it’ kids of NYC regularly line up to snag the latest sneaker or hoodie —rain, sleet or shine (or cyclone bomb).

3. Glossier

Cult beauty brand Glossier primped to new heights in 2017. The brand raised $24 million in a Series B, one of the highest amounts ever by a female founder. Glossier will use the cash to open new storefronts and raise brand awareness. Glossier still doesn’t ship to many countries internationally, so stop by their flagship store to scoop up gifts for the makeup mavens back home.

4. Everlane

In a sharp pivot away from its original ‘no store strategy’, radically transparent Everlane opened its first permanent fixture in New York City. In addition to stocking the brand’s renowned sweaters, cashmere, and accessories, the multi-purpose store features space to host dinners, workshops, and inspiring talks. According to The Washington Post, the decision to expand into brick-and-mortar was partly driven by consumer desire to buy online and return in store, as well as demand to expand beyond online only.

5. La Mercerie

La Mercerie is a fully functional ‘retail restaurant’. Part restaurant, part showroom for high-end design firm Roman and Williams Guild. Diners are given an illustrated card at the end of the meal that lists all the possible purchases - from the French silverware to the table they dined on. 


53 Howard St., SoHo

6. Tiffany & Co: Blue Box Cafe

A further nod to the blurred lines between retail and hospitality. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is no longer only possible on the big screen. The famed jeweller opened The Blue Box Café above its Fifth Avenue flagship in late 2017. The result is a signature blue, Insta-driven wonderland where customers tuck into finger sandwiches and dainty treats over high tea before perusing the latest collection. Reservations fill up fast on Resy.

7. Saks Wellery

A product of two tidbits of wisdom: shoppers are spending more on wellness, and wellness is becoming synonymous with luxury. Saks responded accordingly with a 16,000 square foot wellness mecca where customers can take a fitness class, learn to meditate, or curl up for some new age remedies in a salt room.

8. Hershey's Chocolate World

Step aside, M&M store. Hershey’s Chocolate World in Times Square is a true ode to the humble cacao bean. Chocolate lovers can gobble a custom s’more served from a camper, make a candy bag of their favorite Hershey’s products, and visit the in-store bakery.

9. Kellogg's

Not afraid of carbs? Shunning the ‘new year, new you’ diatribe? Plunge into a bowl of sugary goodness at Kellogg’s cereal cafe in Union Square. Top it up with over 30 toppings guaranteed to ignite your inner child. Kellogg’s joins a suite of ‘unexpected’ brands opening direct-to-consumer experiences and using brick-and-mortar as a place to generate hype and excitement (Sprite, Glade and Procter & Gamble have all opened either permanent or pop-up stores).

10. Package Free

The U.S. uses 500 million plastic straws every day! Determined to reduce reliance on plastic and make it easier for people to create less waste, Lauren Singer opened Package Free in Brooklyn. She lives the store’s zero-waste ethos, all her waste from the last several years fits in a mason jar. A must see if you’re making the trip out to Brooklyn and interested in sustainable retail.
