Thoughtworks Launches Data Guild to Develop Local Talent Pool with Deep Tech Specialisations

Thoughtworks Data Guild gives software engineers the opportunity to develop expertise in data engineering, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)

Thoughtworks Singapore has launched the Thoughtworks Data Guild, supported under the TeSA Company-Led Training (CLT) programme. Thoughtworks Data Guild aims to boost the local tech talent pool, offering on-the-job training for passionate software developers to work on real-world projects, with support from experts at Thoughtworks.

The Thoughtworks Data Guild programme is open to Singaporeans who are passionate about building specialised careers in data engineering, ML and AI. Candidates selected under the programme will be offered a 12-month paid contract and be mentored by Thoughtworks’ experienced industry practitioners and senior data consultants. Candidates can look forward to learning from seasoned mentors, gain practical project experience and solve complex data challenges. By the end of the programme, the developers will be equipped to drive big data projects involving complex datasets, and to build digital platforms that leverage on ML and AI.

“Thoughtworks recognises that deeper collaboration between industry and government is critical for growing the talent pool and tech industry expertise in Singapore. We are committed to boosting our partnerships with the various government agencies to identify and groom the next generation of digital talent,” said Ms Jessie Xia, Managing Director, Thoughtworks, Southeast Asia. “Building on our existing public-private talent programmes, the Thoughtworks Data Guild will cultivate talent to further grow the data, ML and AI ecosystem here.”

“Talent is at the heart of Singapore’s digital transformation. The Digital Economy requires new mindsets and skills for our workers. Workers experienced with the use of emerging technologies can develop their skills in creativity, analytical thinking, emotional intelligence and innovation. IMDA supports the launch of the Thoughtworks Data Guild through the TeSA CLT, to develop and nurture more experts in data analytics, machine learning and AI,” said Mr Howie Lau, Chief Industry Development Officer, IMDA.

Augmenting the comprehensive talent programmes that Thoughtworks has developed over the years, the Thoughtworks Data Guild helps to bolster Singapore’s position as a global hub for specialised deep tech capabilities. Thoughtworks has consistently collaborated and invested in deepening Singapore’s tech talent capabilities through impactful public-private partnerships, including the Tech Immersion Programme — which provides fresh graduates with immersive opportunities to build a successful technology career ― as well as the JumpStart! Programme ― that helps those from non-IT backgrounds transit into software focused tech job roles.
