Luca Bastos, lead consultant in Brazil, died at age 69
Last Sunday (8 March), we lost one of our greatest teachers. Luca Bastos, our consultant leader in Brazil, died at age 69 in Sao Paulo. A born leader, Luca personified enthusiasm, a thirst for knowledge and technical excellence.
Celebrating the success of Agile Brazil 2013
With over 40 years of experience, this 'developer from the old times', as he called himself, made his name and history in the IT community since its very beginning. He was, for instance, one of the founders of the Java Users Group in Brazil (now with 150 thousand members).
For his family and friends, we extend our thoughts and good energy. Given this immeasurable loss, our mission is to honor his legacy and focus our efforts on keeping the passion and innovative thinking that he encouraged among us.
Homages from friends at ThoughtWorks while Luca battled cancer.
We made this post as a space to honor our colleague and friend. In the comments, share your words, your stories with Luca, or what else you see fit. The wisdom of this pioneer will be greatly missed, but we are confident that his innovative and energetic spirit lives in each of us.
"I'm sure that the experience shared here will serve to help more people in our mission to improve humanity through software, creating a socially responsible and economically fair ecosystem, and change the role of technology in society." (Quote taken from the last paragraph of the preface by Luca Bastos of the book Antologia da ThoughtWorks Brasil, November 2014).
