6:00pm - Welcome note | Pallavi Johnson

6:10pm Breakout networking sessions

Session 1 | Life as a Thoughtworks Data Consultant with Sue Visic & Ned Letcher

We are seeing an increased demand for Data Engineers lately because Data is such an amazing space to work in, particularly as businesses in Australia move towards more cloud-based solutions. This session will focus on what it’s like to work in the Data and AI space at Thoughtworks, and how to access the Data knowledge ecosystem skills we consider as a prerequisite for Data Engineering roles at Thoughtworks.

Session 2 | Career growth at Thoughtworks with Caroline Teahan and Jaksha Shah

At Thoughtworks, everyone is free to shape their career paths and drive their growth journey. While we rely on the passion of each individual to do this, we have a myriad of support programs and initiatives that help set Thoughtworkers up for success. Learn more about our unique programs and how they support our technologists from all walks of life and career pathways.

Session 3 | Life as a Tech Lead with Cam Jackson, Pam Rucinque and Andrew Watson

In this session, the hosts will capture a wide variety of experiences, opinions, and reflections on what it means to bear the responsibilities of a Tech Lead, far beyond just being competent at software delivery. They’ll share the ups and downs of their journeys, and how their roles and responsibilities continue to evolve at the client site.

Session 4 | Life as a woman in Tech with Michelle Lo and Kiruthika Samapathy

What’s it like to be a woman in tech? Especially in the tech industry, being one of the few women in the room is a common occurrence. Kiruthika and Michelle will share their experiences on how they navigate a career in tech, and how they contribute to communities and spaces to fight the biases that women face every day in a male-dominated environment. They’ll also share thoughts on how male colleagues can work together to even the playing field for women and underrepresented gender minorities in the industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend this session?

Our virtual open house is open to everyone :) These sessions will be most valuable for those looking to kick-start their careers in tech or changing careers, and are curious to learn more about Thoughtworks and how to join our team.

What should attendees expect?

  • Virtual networking with Thoughtworks consultants and recruiters
  • Real insight into Thoughtworks’ culture and what it’s like to be a consultant
  • How and where interested candidates can apply; or send their CVs if a role they're interested in isn't on our careers website

What are breakout sessions?

After our welcome note, attendees will be split up into separate meeting rooms based on their session of choice (see below for more detail). We’re inviting technologists to ask Thoughtworkers anything; this could be getting the lowdown on Thoughtworks' culture, to asking about the interview structure for the role you’re interested in, to understanding more about what the equivalent of your current or aspirational role would be at Thoughtworks.

How will the sessions work?

  1. After you register to attend, you'll receive a confirmation message which will include a prompt to fill a form. In this form, you’ll have the option to choose one of the 4 sessions to hear more about career paths at Thoughtworks, life as a Data Consultant, Tech Lead or a Woman in Tech. In the same form, you’ll also be asked to submit your burning questions to the Thoughtworkers leading the session you choose to attend.
  2. A maximum of 25 people will be allowed to attend their preferred session, so first in best dressed. Attendees will be notified once they’ve secured a slot.
  3. On the day, the 100 attendees will be split into 4 Zoom sessions led by Thoughtworkers, based on their pre-chosen areas of interest.

Where is the online event link?

The event link will be shared 1 day before the event, via email, to everyone who is registered to attend. Please make sure to check your email (including your spam folder), for a message from Thoughtworks on June 21 after 9.30am (AEST).

Will the session be recorded?

No — we want these sessions to be a safe and inclusive place for everyone to speak openly. We understand that recording these meetings might make some attendees feel uncomfortable.

Is the meeting accessible?

Yes. We're using Zoom (screen reader accessible), with live automatic captions.
