Tech professionals prioritize diversity and making the world better in 2022.
As Singapore continues to pivot towards economic rebound and uncover growth opportunities, attracting and retaining tech talent has never been a more critical driver to the digital economy than in 2022.
A new survey by global technology consultancy Thoughtworks, showed while traditional pull factors like compensation and opportunities for advancement still play an important role in attracting and retaining talent, an overwhelming majority of technologists today value having their opinions heard and considered (more than 90 percent), working in an inclusive workplace, and working in roles that enable tech to make the world a better place.
In Singapore, Thoughtworks has long prioritized building a vibrant community and cultivating a diverse, inclusive culture where its people have the freedom to make an extraordinary impact on the world through technology. These concerted efforts have garnered Thoughtworks Singapore recognition as one of the Top 10 Best Workplaces™ and one of the Top Five Best Workplaces™ in Technology 2021 by Great Place to Work®.
According to Great Place to Work, some of the positive respondent feedback for Thoughtworks Singapore included:
99 percent said management trusts people to do a good job without watching over their shoulders
98 percent said Thoughtworkers are treated as a full member regardless of position
97 percent said when you join the company you are made to feel welcome
98 percent believed management would only lay people off as a last resort
Wong Wen Shun, Co-Managing Director of Thoughtworks Southeast Asia said, “95 percent of our people said Thoughtworks Singapore is a great place to work, which is testament to how we foster a feedback-driven culture and a learning community for all technologists. Channeling technology and innovation for good, while being part of diverse teams, has always been a core business focus since our start. Through our efforts and insights, we look forward to further nurturing the tech community, where people from all backgrounds can collectively enable positive impact for society.”
Great Place to Work, the global authority on workplace culture, selected the lists using rigorous analytics and confidential employee feedback. Companies were only considered if they are a Great Place to Work-Certified™ organization. This year, close to 100 companies in Singapore are Great Place to Work-Certified™. Only companies who attain at least 65% on the Great Place to Work® Trust Index© Survey can attain the certification.
“With Singapore’s aim to be a regional technology hub, companies on the 2021 Singapore Best Workplaces™ in Technology List are leading the way. These companies demonstrate that placing focus on business growth and putting people first need not be mutually exclusive. With the continuous war for talent in a highly competitive and rapidly evolving industry, we hope that these companies can be examples for industry players and provide attractive options for talent looking for their next place to grow their career,” said Ms Evelyn Kwek, Managing Director of Great Place to Work ASEAN and ANZ.
