ExternalDNS 将Kubernetes的Ingress和Service所对应的DNS记录，同步给外部的DNS提供商。而这项工作原本由kops dns-controller、Zalando's Mate或者route53-kubernetes来完成。由于人们更加青睐ExternalDNS，后两者目前已被弃用。该工具使得用户可以通过公共DNS服务器，来发现Kubernetes的内部资源，从而减少了因 Ingress 主机或者 service IP地址发生改变，而需要更新DNS时的一些人工步骤。它支持大量可以直接使用的DNS服务提供商，并且正在通过社区支持增加更多DNS服务提供商。就像那句老玩笑话所说，万事皆关乎DNS。
