Jackie Kinsey

Chief Leadership Officer
From my first 'proper' job I have been committed to people development and started my career in Travel many years ago as a Technical Trainer.  After 9 years in Travel (which involved a lot of Travel and two different companies)  I worked for 7 years deepening my HR skills for a business selling a Retail Banking system.  After a brief and wonderful time as interim HR Director, I joined ThoughtWorks.  During my time at ThoughtWorks I worked as Head of HR for UK and then after my second baby - moved into Global Leadership Development.

The Interview

I came to find ThoughtWorks by

I had lunch with an ex colleague from my previous company who mentioned this unusual business called ThoughtWorks.  No such thing as a free lunch!  Personal recommendations do work.

My geeky passion is

Egyptology - love the history and art!!  At one time I could read Hieroglyphics - please don't ask me to translate any now!

The best advice I can give a current or future ThoughtWorker is

Be clear about who you are , what your passion is and want you want to do...ThoughtWorks is an amazing place where without the traditional structures more things are possible.

The thing I’m most proud of from my time here is

In addition to our LD programmes - our Distributed Coaching Summit.  We wanted to create a coaching programme for ThoughtWorks and so asked ThoughtWorkers.  This involved over 100 Thoughtworks across 24 hours, across the globe sharing their thoughts and passions.  From this we pooled all the tools, approaches and ideas and created the coaching programme which we are currently rolling out and evolving.

The most interesting thing I’ve learned on the job is

As a people professional challenge the need for traditional HR approaches and processes.  Less can be more.

The thing I love most about my work is

It's not just a job.  We are trying to do something different in who we are and what we do for society and of course the people are great to work with too!

With ThoughtWorks, I’ve visited

Many wonderful places and met incredible people.  Countries visited so far in no particular order....Uganda, South Africa, India, US, Brazil, Germany, China and of course the UK.  Really excited to get the chance to visit Ecuador one day soon.
