Describe your First Year Experience in one or two words: Refreshing

I’d love to hear about your career journey. Can you talk about what led you here and your decision to join Thoughtworks?

I first came across Thoughtworks during a virtual seminar regarding Product Management consulting where a principal consultant was a guest speaker. They described the various ways Thoughtworks engaged with clients which I found fascinating, particularly where Thoughtworks partnered with clients to develop a digital strategy. Ultimately, I chose Thoughtworks because of the culture and the flexibility to work across a myriad of domains.

Ok take me back to your first day at Thoughtworks. Your first week. Your first month. How has your onboarding and First Year Experience differed from previous onboarding at other companies?

My previous onboarding experiences have been less than optimal. Although there was a wealth of information to digest, the Thoughtworks onboarding process was organized and actually fun. It may not seem significant but what I most appreciated was the Trello board which had each day’s tasks listed in priority order. The Trello board was tremendously helpful in getting myself situated that first week!

I just recently completed my first year here at Thoughtworks. In that brief time I’ve learned and accomplished so much. Yet, I still feel excited for what’s to come.

What has been your favorite part of your Thoughtworks career to date? Any milestones? “Ah-ha” moments?

The autonomy. On my current account, I have been given a significant amount of ownership and autonomy by the client and Thoughtworks leadership. I believe that is only possible because of Thoughtworks’ reputation and relationship with the client.

Across clients, Thoughtworks’ reputation precedes itself. When a client learns you’re a Thoughtworker, the response is positive and there is an expectation that you will do great work.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting their first day at Thoughtworks?

Dive in and network! As mentioned previously, a person can be inundated with information especially when starting at Thoughtworks, and no matter how busy they may seem, folks are always open to help a fellow Thoughtworker out.

Anything else that you wanted to add?

You truly can build your career here at Thoughtworks. From leading the opening of a new office to learning design as a developer, there are a range of experiences to explore and carve out for yourself.
