Matheus Tait

MANAGING DIRECTOR - ecuador

A software engineer who acted as developer, researcher, innovation analyst and project manager on technology projects for various industry verticals and in some countries since mid 90's. Specialist in not being a specialist. After several positions inside Thoughtworks, I am currently the Manager Director for Ecuador. I love music, technology, books, to travel, a good wine, innovation, and lots of other stuff... My main objective is simple: work with technology while trying to have a positive impact in the world.

I once saw this definition of Jack of All Trades, and I think it applies somehow:

"Jack of all trades: is a figure of speech used in reference to a person that is competent with some skills, but is not necessarily outstanding in any particular one. Jack of all trades may be a integrator, as such an individual knows enough from many learned trades and skills along his carrer to be able to bring his disciplines together in a practical manner. This person is a generalist rather than an specialist."

The Interview

I came to find ThoughtWorks by

I once read this blog post from Martin Fowler saying that Roy started ThoughtWorks as a social experiment to find out if it was possible to create the kind of company he wanted to make, and make that company last for many years. Many of the elements of that "experimental" company were things that people told him couldn't be done, such as: a company that has a social agenda, a company that is transparent, a space where people collaborate effectively, idealist people making good decisions, a place where the culture is more valuable than business model, etc.

Then I began to learn more about ThoughtWorks and it appears that such a company was possible and more than that: apart from having a social agenda, a fluid hierarchy, passionate and idealistic people, and all of that; this company was also revolutionizing software creation and excelling in agile methodologies.

At this point I decided that it would be good to work there. When I saw on twitter that they were recruiting in my city, São Paulo, I went to this recruiting event and here am I.

The most interesting thing I've learned on the job is

The most interesting thing I’ve learned on the job is that you are constantly learning. For real! Every day I discover something new. It can be about technology, about people, about social causes, about the world... I never stopped learning.

With ThoughtWorks, I've visited

On site? Porto Alegre, São Paulo, Recife, Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, San Francisco, Pune, Bangalore and Quito. I´m sure there is more to come.
