Thoughtworks Group Managing Director Chris Murphy Named as Agent of Change in Gender Equality Power List

Management Today and the Women’s Business Council Spotlight Male Leaders Making a Difference

Chris Murphy, Thoughtworks’ Group Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and South Asia, has today been awarded a place in Management Today’s Agent of Change Power List, which showcases the British male leaders who are driving gender equality in the workplace.

Alongside 29 other leaders from organisations such as PwC, Facebook and Salesforce, Chris has been recognised for his contribution to the gender initiatives within Thoughtworks, a global technology consultancy, including the Women in Leadership Development programme, which aims to counter the gender imbalance of women in senior management roles. As part of the global executive leadership team at Thoughtworks, he also ensures that the company not only remains above the industry standard, but leads within the technology industry; over the last three years, at least half of graduate intakes for STEM roles were women, and the company was recently honoured by the Anita Borg Institute in the 2016 Top Companies for Women Technologists programme, beating Google and Facebook in this category.

“I am honoured to be included in this list amongst so many fantastic male leaders championing women in business and technology,” said Chris Murphy. “Championing gender parity is the right thing to do, and we strive to welcome those looking to join the industry with enthusiasm and support. A perse and inclusive workforce leads to a far more powerful and inventive organisation, and Thoughtworks is witnessing this firsthand.”

Chris and his team are also actively involved with community groups across the UK that support women in tech, including Code First Girls and Manchester Girl Geeks. Thoughtworks also supports Mums in Tech and has dedicated support for women looking to get back into working life.

“Chris represents everything that Thoughtworks stands for in terms of inclusivity and gender balance. He helps us remain unbiased as a company and consistently strives to ensure all employees are listened to and encouraged to reach their full potential,” said Ruth Harrison, Managing Director of Thoughtworks UK. “We are thrilled that Chris has been recognised as an agent of change in this influential power list, and we look forward to continuing to grow our presence as a leader in employer brand and equality with Chris as a key member of our team.”

“We can’t achieve equality in the workplace without involving men. Our Agents of Change power list will showcase those pioneering business leaders who are shattering glass ceilings and nurturing the female talent of tomorrow,' says Cilla Snowball, president of the Women's Business Council and group chair of advertising giant AMV BBDO.
