Microsoft Copilot Retrieval API is a streamlined solution for retrieving data from the Microsoft ecosystem for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). The API retrieves relevant text extracts from SharePoint, OneDrive and content exposed through Copilot connectors. It applies security trimming based on the calling user and respects access controls defined within the tenant. Developers can build organization-aware AI agents without maintaining custom data stores and retrieval pipelines, leaving tasks such as chunking, indexing, data synchronization, reindexing and access control to Microsoft. The Microsoft Copilot Retrieval API is particularly useful for AI systems that need organizational knowledge already stored in Microsoft tools, and we’ve had a positive experience adopting it.
