After Oracle's acquisition of MySQL, more and more close sourced modules are bundled into its enterprise edition. There are concerns over the future of MySQL. MariaDB is a community-developed GPL-only fork of MySQL intended to remain truly open source, yet fully compatible and competitive with MySQL. High-profile adopters include large-scale internet organizations Google and Wikipedia, as well as key Linux distributors RedHat and SUSE.
