Claude Managed Agents is Anthropic's hosted service for running general-purpose agents. Teams define each agent's model, prompt, tools, MCP servers and skills. Anthropic provides the rest of a managed agents runtime: the agent loop, sandbox, scheduling and observability. Agents run on a schedule or when an application starts a session through the API. Scheduled runs are suited to recurring background work, such as triaging alerts and proposing fixes as pull requests for human review.
Teams can get started without writing code through the console or use code-based integrations for greater flexibility and control. Agent, environment and schedule definitions can be stored in files applied through a CI pipeline. A credential vault injects credentials into outbound requests without exposing them to the agent. One of our internal teams chose Claude Managed Agents over other agent platforms, including Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, because it was easier to understand and faster to deliver with.
We're placing it in Assess because our experience is limited to that team and the service is in beta. Unlike Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, it supports only Anthropic's agent harness and Claude models. Anthropic charges for session runtime as well as tokens. Because the service stores sessions, it isn't eligible for Zero Data Retention. Self-hosted sandboxes can keep tool execution within your network, but orchestration and tool results still pass through Anthropic.
