David Thodey AO
David Thodey AO is a prominent global business leader with a focus on innovation, technology and telecommunications, boasting over 40 years of experience in building brand and shareholder value.
Currently, he serves as the Chairman of Tyro, Australia’s independent EFTPOS banking institution, and Xero, a cloud-based accounting software provider for small and medium-sized businesses. Thodey is also a non-executive Board director of Ramsay Health Care, a global hospital group, and previously chaired the Commonwealth Science, Industry & Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia's national research organization.
Prior to his current roles, Thodey was the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Telstra from 2009 to 2015. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer for Australia and New Zealand at IBM, where he spent 22 years in various senior executive positions across Asia Pacific.
Recognized for his contributions to business and ethical leadership, Thodey was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2017. He holds honorary Doctorates in Science from Deakin University and in Technology from the University of Technology, Sydney. Thodey is actively involved in consulting, venture capital, public policy, and science, research, and innovation, and continues to serve on multiple boards while managing his investment portfolio.
