Habit Hooks is an open-source code-quality coaching tool for AI coding agents. It runs existing static-analysis and linting tools such as Ruff, ESLint, Knip, PMD, deptry and jscpd. Instead of returning raw linter errors, it translates tool-specific rule violations into actionable forward guidance and code smell context. A bare linter violation tells an AI agent that a check has failed but might encourage a superficial change that merely satisfies the rule. Habit Hooks maps the finding to the associated code smell and deterministically injects explicit guidance into the model's prompt. This context helps the agent address the actual design problem and self-correct immediately without relying on an LLM to generate the recommendation. The tool provides a practical implementation of feedback sensors for coding agents, integrating deterministic checks into the implementation loop so agents can respond to failures before human review.
