Bureaucracy Hacking for Innovation

We host Mina Hsiang, Administrator of the United States Digital Service (USDS), to discuss how she uses the tools taught in “Hack Your Bureaucracy” to drive innovation across some of the largest enterprises and at the highest levels of government. Hsiang will also bring insights from her experiences, which include rescuing Healthcare.gov from the brink of collapse and bringing product management to Medicare through MACRA implementation, to illustrate the ingenuity and resourcefulness that delivers results.

Mina Hsiang

Mina Hsiang was named the third Administrator of the United States Digital Service (USDS) in August 2021, becoming the first woman and first Asian-American to lead the organization since it started in 2014. Hsiang brings deep technical experience to the position. She has worked across the private and public sectors to help solve complex problems requiring important actions both from the government and the private sector.

Jonah Czerwinski
Jonah Czerwinski

Jonah Czerwinski is a recognized leader in government modernization, technology, innovation, and federal public sector management and currently serves as the Federal Practice Leader at the global technology consultancy Thoughtworks where he works with federal agency leaders to transform their organizations into modern digital enterprises. Jonah served in government from 2009 through 2013 as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (SES) and also founded and led the VA Center for Innovation (VACI), serving as its first Executive Director.

Marina Nitze
Marina Nitze

Marina Nitze served as the Chief Technology Officer of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs under President Obama. Before her VA appointment, Marina was Senior Advisor on Technology in the Obama White House and was the first Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the U.S. Department of Education. She is a partner at Layer Aleph, a crisis response firm that specializes in restoring complex software systems to service, and a fellow at New America's New Practice Lab, where she works on modernizing America's foster care system.

Nick Sinai
Nick Sinai

Nick Sinai served as Deputy Chief Technology Officer of the United States under President Obama. Nick led President Obama’s Open Data Initiatives, co-led the Open Government Initiative, and helped start the Presidential Innovation Fellows program. Nick is a Senior Advisor to global software investor Insight Partners, he serves on the board of Coding It Forward, and is an advisor to the Harvard Open Data Project, Harvard Computer Society's Tech For Social Good, and Upsolve.
