Mike O'Brien leads the State and Local Government (SLG) practice at Thoughtworks. He is responsible for helping government leaders navigate complex mandates and constituent needs through an unparalleled synthesis of world-class strategy, design, engineering, and AI.

Mike and his team are laser-focused on delivering quantifiable outcomes that drive down operational costs, elevate data quality, and significantly enhance the experience for constituents, students, and the dedicated SLG workforce.

For the last 20 years, Mike has been a champion for modernizing government services. He joined Thoughtworks in 2024 and has been fortunate to help government clients leverage the company's amazing capabilities to modernize mission-critical systems and improve citizen experience.

He harnesses Thoughtworks' decades of global public sector experience and its distinctive ability to translate high-level objectives into pragmatic, technology-fueled execution. This work includes architecting unified constituent platforms for integrated service delivery, embedding AI to de-risk complex mainframe modernizations, and seamlessly integrating siloed systems to enable holistic service delivery and critical data sharing.

When he steps away from the world of government technology, Mike enjoys life on the Chesapeake Bay aboard his fishing boat and spending quality time with his wife, two sons, and two dogs.
