Market Technical Director - Banking , Financial Services and Insurance

Technology is a fundamental differentiator for Thoughtworks and we need to continue to grow and advance our technical offering in order to preserve our place in the market. In a move to ensure we realize our business vision and goals and stay at the forefront of our offering, we are now seeking to put in place a Market Tech Director (MTD) role for each vertical market in the region. This position will look after our tech brand within the scope of the region's vertical markets: increasing our H2 and H3 portfolio, demonstrating industry leadership and fostering a culture of technical excellence. The MTD participates in Vertical Market tech strategy definition and executes on regional GTM strategy to support the business goals.

Job responsibilities

  • Partners with Market Director on all Go-to-market (GTM) relevant services and sales. Regular travel across the region should be expected.
  • Holds key relationships with regional account tech exec stakeholders where we are executing at scale; partners with Dig Eng and SLs on large/strategic deals, staffing themselves on key opportunities and accounts
  • Holds tech executive and influencer relationships across the portfolio
  • Deeply understands all services we offer across Emtech, SLs and Digital Eng; creates visibility, transparency and alignment, between markets, service lines, digital engineering and emerging tech, creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation
  • Partners with Emerging Tech to identify opportunities to build credibility and brand in emerging tech within the Vertical Market and drive balance in our horizon portfolio
  • Supports brand building and content generation appropriate for the Vertical Market, including ensuring we are represented at the the right conferences
  • Leverage SL capacity to build domain-specific tech solutions that increase our value to clients
  • Participates in global tech strategy definition and execution to support the biz goals and contextualizes the tech strategy for the verticals
  • Supports the development of key tech leaders in the Vertical Markets (e.g. market specific TPs and DPs) and ensures we have a diverse group of leaders; attracting, hiring and mentoring senior tech talent in the Vertical Market to support business goals
  • Ensures due diligence on M&As in the vertical and that they are aligned with us culturally and technically

Job qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Proven experience as a Tech Director or a similar technical leadership role within a consultancy organization or large-scale client engagement.
  • In-depth knowledge of cutting-edge technologies, software development methodologies, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience in developing and executing technology roadmaps aligned with business goals.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and nurturing high-performance teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to translate technical concepts into actionable insights for the executive team and non-technical partners.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Broad knowledge of software engineering: languages, frameworks, techniques, and industry trends and demonstrable experience leading complex, major changes and initiatives.

Professional Skills

  • The successful MTD will have a track-record in delivering results in a fast-moving business and hence be comfortable with change and uncertainty. Excellent stakeholder management across every level is essential to being successful in this role.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in complex and fast-paced environments.
  • Competent communicator/interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills in change management on an organizational and interpersonal level;
  • Proven experience hiring & developing technical talent.
  • Ability to focus on the larger picture and think strategically. It is this role's responsibility to lead the vertical market team and our tech offering in the right direction with a common goal in mind. The MTD needs to focus on the future and anticipate the next step, always staying ahead of emerging trends.
  • This role must work across the region/business and with key executives to develop a technical strategy for the vertical market in the region. This involves goal-setting, discussing options and analyzing risks. Your technical strategy must align with overall business objectives. So both technical skill and good business sense will be critical to this role's success.
  • As a tech leader you will be a voice of reason and help negotiate any conflict, act as a bridge between the tech team and other stakeholders and try to ensure a smooth flow of communication.
  • The MTD will represent the external face of a company, which requires them to have an open and engaged relationship with vendors, customers, investors and partners.

Travel

While we’ve traditionally been a traveling consultancy, we have adopted a hybrid working model with the majority of work being completed remotely from either home or local Thoughtworks offices. However, business travel to client locations should be expected when required by Thoughtworks or our clients’ needs.
