At Thoughtworks, the Business Development Manager (Retail & CPG vertical) is responsible for developing and securing a pipeline of new opportunities and establishing connections with new clients. This is a commercial role that carries out the end-to-end sales process to attract and onboard strategic new clients. This is a "hunter" position.
Job responsibilities
- Generate and develop business relationships and a sales pipeline with potential new clients, creating the foundation for long-term, value-based relationships.
- Engage with client executives as true partners in business and technology transformation, expanding Thoughtworks’ involvement to encompass the full breadth and depth of our capabilities across all service lines.
- Map the decision-making chain and key roles for negotiation and deal closure.
- Ensure the creation and execution of strategies for prospecting and building “win-win” value propositions for both Thoughtworks and clients, engaging teams when necessary to develop a proposal that effectively articulates the solution’s value (e.g., SL, Tech, Mkt).
- Develop targeted prospecting and strategies to build a pipeline of new clients and maintain a healthy pipeline (aligned with proposed targets).
- Qualify (as per internal process) and convert leads into differentiated corporate sales opportunities.
- Create strategies to strengthen and advance our domain focus through a multi-year evolutionary approach (when the role is domain-specific).
- Collaborate with various internal teams, such as Service Lines, Finance, Legal, Staffing, and Professional Services, to create customized proposals, leading the solution development and presentation to potential clients.
- Leverage available tools, events, and marketing support to develop sales pitches, proposals, and presentations for target accounts.
- Recognize that our people and our clients are at the core of everything we do.
- Keep CRM systems, qualification processes, and approval workflows updated in accordance with company policies.
- Develop strategic plans for potential key accounts (following the TW model).
- Clearly and accurately communicate potential closures and profile allocations to the Staffing and Market teams.
Job qualifications
Technical Skills
- Experience in initiating and closing large opportunities with complex solutions for clients in Retail and CPG sector.
- Ability to build relationships with executive and C-level clients in both business and technology aspects.
- Knowledge of agile practices and experience working in agile environments.
- Understanding of the latest technologies and practices, with insight into how projects are executed.
- Experience in selling premium technology services.
- Advanced proficiency in English.

- Ability to navigate an ambiguous environment with autonomy and accountability.
- Thrive in a collaborative, non-hierarchical work style.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence executives while remaining flexible and adaptable to collaborate with internal teams in crafting complex solutions for delivery.
