OpenWiki is a command-line interface that automatically writes and maintains a wiki for a codebase or personal knowledge repository. It synthesizes source materials into a linked Markdown wiki that other agents can use as context. OpenWiki is currently in our Trial ring as we evaluate its impact on active projects. Our experience has reinforced a familiar challenge: high-quality documentation is essential, but keeping it up to date is notoriously difficult. OpenWiki addresses this by using automated pipelines to update content as source material changes, with checkpointing to track when each piece of documentation was last generated.
OpenWiki also supports local models for private generation and the OKF format for structured documentation. For humans, it includes an interactive visualizer that presents the underlying wiki as an explorable node graph, helping them navigate and understand relationships across interconnected topics and codebase documents.
