We attempted to upgrade Mingle from Rails 2.3 to 3.0, but abandoned the approach. Here we share some of the lessons we learned.

We upgraded from OpenJDK 6 after discovering a memory leak which affected both our cloud offering as well as some of our onsite customers, specifically those running Ubuntu. We discovered that OpenJDK 6 was causing Java finalizers to run in an unstable state, leading to resource leaks.

As you know, Mingle moved to the cloud last year. With that move came a lot of exciting developments from our team, including a new tool, eb_deployer, which helps automate blue-green deployment using AWS Elastic Beanstalk.
