Get ahead of the latest technology trends

29 June | 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Conrad Bengaluru

Are you always striving to sharpen your tech skills? Keeping up with all the new tools, languages, and techniques is time consuming. How do you sort truth from hype?

Tech is always changing and opinions are never in short supply - but knowing the fundamentals remain critical. The Radar is a document that sets out the changes that we think are currently interesting in software development - things in motion that we think you should pay attention to and consider using in your projects. It offers a pragmatic perspective based on what's working - and not - at our major clients worldwide. Can it scale? Will it lock you in? What are the continuous delivery and integration implications? The Tech Radar examines all of this.

Whether you're a dev, an architect, or an IT manager, join us for the first ever Tech Radar Summit in India with, Martin Fowler for discussions of the latest Tech Radar .

Agenda

09:30 AM - Registration

10:00 AM - Welcome note - Sudhir Tiwari, Managing Director, ThoughtWorks India

10:15 AM - A decade of the radar - Martin Fowler, Chief Scientist, ThoughtWorks

In his keynote, Martin will highlight about the changes in technology but also many things that stay the same and, how the technology radar has been a vehicle to discuss and absorb both the changes and the points of stability.

11:00 AM - Technology radar vol 20: Deep-dive - Bharani Subramaniam, Market Tech Principal, ThoughtWorks and Lakshminarasimhan Sudarshan, Principal Consultant, ThoughtWorks

11:40 AM - Beyond software into platform - Padmanabhan Balasubramanian, MD, Goldman Sachs

The world of technology has fundamentally changed. There are numerous platform companies in the last decade that have fundamentally new business models. As a technologists , one has to rethink code and software as platform components instead of stand-alone products. This talk will focus on evolution of financial and technical aspects of platform business for engineers.

12:20 PM - Lunch break

Breakout sessions

Track 1

1:30 - 2:10 PM

Journey to a CTO

Sauvik Banerjjee, Technology Leader, Tata Group Digital

2:10 - 2:50 PM

Blockchain in Enterprise

Himanshu Pandey

In this talk we will talk about our blockchain journey of setting up the first enterprise-level blockchain in the market, how we started to learn about the technology, what were the main problems which we faced and how did we overcome those. Also, we will be talking about what are the things which went smoothly. And an important part of the discussion would be the learnings which we inculcated during the completion of this project. To finish, we will talk about what are the final design and technical decisions which we will take if we are given to do a new VAKT like project again in future.

1:30 - 2:10 PM

Scaling Systems - 1 step at a time

Ranjan Sakalley - CTO, GoPay

A journey through various failures and learnings to build reliable systems - starting from basic building blocks:

1. Hire the right people (failures and learnings)

2. Build the right teams (what is a good team?)

3. Languages and platforms

4. Continuous Delivery - automation

5. Synchronous to eventually consistent systems

6. Cache misses

AI for Governance

Dr.Vivek Raghavan & Samir Seth

Artificial Intelligence is having an impact on all aspects of human life. This talk will explore ways in which Artificial Intelligence can be used to improve the quality of governance. We will also discuss the pre-requisites to effectively deploy AI technologies to across various domains in governance.

Build Security In

Harinee Muralinath & Neelu Tripathy

In this talk we will look at the tenets of ‘Building Security Into the Software’. We will understand the important aspects of People, Processes/Practices and Tools in upholding Security without thinking separately about it. With Agile and faster delivery becoming a norm, building Security into the software is the best way to deliver secure software at the pace of DevOps. The talk will also discuss challenges around changing technologies, customer contexts and tech stacks alongside applications and teams that keep scaling up.

Track 3

1:30 - 2:10 PM

Return of Reconfigurable Computing and its Impact on Software development industry

Harshal Hayatnagarkar & Bhimsen Padalkar

Custom-hardware development is known for its difficulties such as development costs, pace of execution, and manufacturing costs and issues. Here come the reconfigurable computing (also known as Field Programmable Gate Arrays or FPGAs) to rescue, where a hardware design can be reconfigured for various functions, iteratively and incrementally. From software point of view, it means that an algorithm is converted into a logic design to be run directly as hardware. As we see, one of the implications will be evolution in the definition of full-stack development which will now include hardware development also. In this talk, we will explore the original vision as well as this impact on full-stack development in the field of custom-software development services. We will also briefly discuss ThoughtWorks' current work with TIFR-National Centre for Radio Astrophysics to employ FPGAs for large scale digital signal processing.

2:10 - 2:50 PM

A Journey on XR

Nithya N

Most of us like virtual/augmented reality experience; but how about building such games? This session is about one such journey of how it all started and my experience on XR development. This session also covers the relevance of virtual/augmented reality experience outside the gaming industry.

Embracing a Service Mesh

Krishnaswamy Subramnaian & Arvind Thangamani

With the growing number of microservices, it is getting difficult to manage the network operations, observability, release management, etc... to actually benefit from a microservices setup. In this session, we will see how a service mesh can help us in managing our microservices by reducing operational complexity and do it in a decoupled and scalable manner.
