Critical considerations when designing AI systems in a responsible manner
The ongoing debate about the far-reaching implications of generative AI shows how focus on the potential fallout from technology solutions is increasing, whether in the form of misinformation, excessive carbon emissions or the exclusion of certain groups. According to Thoughtworks’ research on what consumers want from GenAI, 93% of respondents say businesses which fail to incorporate responsible and ethical thinking risk detrimental impacts.
At the same time, ethical and legal compliance are rarely a motivating agent for tech builders when designing and deploying AI systems, partly due to the lack of pressure to comply with the legislation, says Mozilla study, conducted by Ramak Molavi Vasse'i from Mozilla's Insights Team with contributions from Thoughtworks. It's clear that transparency in AI does matter and that ignoring it has very real risks.
The contradiction and uncertainties motivated us to arrange a breakfast meet-up at Thoughtworks in Helsinki, in which we’ll hear different perspectives of responsible AI. You’ll have the chance to meet ethical AI researchers Jesse McCrosky and Ramak Molavi Vasse'i from Mozilla Foundation, as well as to get familiar with some responsible tech tools you can start using right away. We’ll also facilitate a panel discussion where we’ll hear the viewpoints of different tech leaders from Finnish and international organizations.
