EAI

Application Integration is a common feature of most large systems. Modern computing systems rarely exist in a vacuum. ThoughtWorks has a wide range of experience in the integration of applications using a variety of technologies and techniques, in fact some of our consultants are widely regarded as world class experts in the subject and have written some of the de-facto standard texts on the subject.

Our approach to such projects varies depending on the needs of the individual engagement, we have done large-scale application integration using most of the modern integration platforms, as well as custom integrations using Open Source technologies. The complexity of our integration projects ranges from large-scale implementations of Service Oriented Architectures to relatively simple point-to-point single integrations. We design our solutions to meet your specific needs.

Dave Farley, ThoughtWorks Technical Architect, gives us an example:

"One of our recent projects involved integration with a variety of systems, two internal systems and four systems belonging to other organizations. We developed, using Agile evolutionary techniques, a sophisticated Service Oriented Architecture which formed the core of the system.

For external communications we implemented adaptors to our 'Information Bus' for communications with these external systems. The adaptors used a variety of EAI techniques and technologies, depending on the needs of the system we were integrating with. One system used WebServices, using an open-source toolkit, another used a commercial EAI vendor's infrastructure to handle messaging and message-mapping.

Overall the resulting system was very flexible, and highly modular, reducing development time and costs and making the evolution of the system as a whole straight-forward."
