thetrainline.com is the UK’s leading independent retailer of online train tickets with over 8.4 million registered users. Over the last 3 years thetrainline.com, in cooperation with ThoughtWorks, created a new web platform to implement shorter, simpler booking processes, to support innovation, increase safety and allow them to seize on market opportunities efficiently.

In one of the largest known distributed Agile projects to date, a team of up to 200 people delivered a Web 2.0 solution with a speed that was fundamental to thetrainline.com’s success.

In the briefing David Jack, (CIO, thetrainline.com) and Mahesh Baxi (MD, ThoughtWorks India) walked the audience through this massive undertaking, outlining the project’s approach, continuous improvement strategies as well as challenges and lessons learnt along the way.
