ThoughtWorks Appoints Former EDS and Accenture Executive to a New VP of Global Operations Role

04 Aug 2004 - In response to nearly doubling its headcount and worldwide revenue in less than two years, ThoughtWorks, a transnational IT professional services firm, has appointed Markku Koppinen vice president of global operations, a new role for the organization.

In his role as Vice President of Global Operations, Koppinen will drive the operational management and planning aspects of the organization working closely with ThoughtWorks' president and chief operating officer (COO) Trevor Mather and chief financial officer Eric Loughmiller.

"ThoughtWorks is pleased to have someone of Markku's caliber and international stature join the organization as we continue to grow to meet the increasing demands of our existing, as well as new, clients," Mather says. Koppinen's more than 20 years of professional services experience includes a 11-year career at Andersen Consulting (Accenture) where he initially worked in the company's Helsinki office selling, managing and delivering custom application development services. After transferring to London in 1995, Koppinen moved to operational management roles including being responsible for business and financial planning across 11 European countries as well as establishing and managing the global operations of the Consulting Competency organization.

After leaving Andersen Consulting, he worked as a managing director of efinanceworks, an e-finance venture capital fund, and later as COO of mPower Europe, an e-enabled investment advisory start-up. Most recently, Koppinen worked with EDS in several operational management roles including COO for their Solutions Consulting practice in Continental Europe and COO for their Global Financial Services Industry Practice.
