"Big Data" has become one of the top buzzwords in the IT industry over the past few years. And like many buzzwords, the term is frequently misused, misunderstood and is loaded with over-inflated expectations.
In this session we will seek to define the term more precisely and distinguish hype from reality. We will discuss the power of insight, and how Big Data solutions can provide greater visibility into the factors impacting the performance and health of your business. We will also discuss some of the challenges you may encounter implementing Big Data solutions, and some recommended best practices for overcoming those challenges.
John Spens heads ThoughtWorks' Analytics Practice, where he brings over twenty years of experience in delivering custom software and business intelligence solutions.Prior to joining ThoughtWorks, John has worked around the globe with Towers Perrin, Deloitte & Touche and Hyperion Software. Throughout his career, John has been involved in nearly every aspect of building software; as a developer, as a data architect, and managing project, program and testing teams. He has worked in a variety of industries, including Healthcare, Financial Services, Insurance, Telecommunications, Manufacturing and Consumer Products. John is a graduate of Marist College with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.
