Governance has gotten a very bad reputation in the news recently (the sub-prime mortgage crisis, Bernie Madoff, etc). With each of these failures - we all rightly ask: "Where was the oversight? What is the point of the governance team if they can't prevent these problems?" Software is no exception. The IT industry has a terrible reputation for overspending, delivering poor quality, or releasing unwanted features. So where is the governance? What control do we have over our projects?

In this talk, Mark Rickmeier will discuss how organizations should assess the health of their software delivery projects. He will identify some of the techniques used by successful delivery teams to track and forecast their projects, assess risk, and communicate with the Project Management Office.
