An interactive community of authors and readers

Simon & Schuster, Inc. (S&S) is a leading global English language publisher. Based in New York, the company publishes and distributes in printed, digital, and audio formats worldwide.
S&S publish nearly 2000 titles a year, and so a huge legacy of content plus the need to integrate with over 20 third party applications made a challenging prospect for an online revamp. S&S wanted to add rich content and social networking capabilities, giving their authors a great platform.
ThoughtWorks helped Simon & Schuster through their tradeoff decisions - proposing an open source software (Ruby on Rails) and offshore delivery model to get the most for their dollars.
User-centered design techniques and a distributed agile approach allowed this business critical and technically challenging project to be delivered in just five months. S&S’ decade-old US website was transformed into a content-rich, intuitive, interactive online community.
